|Starting in Spring 2002, the Foundation, in collaboration with the faculty and administration of Great Neck North High School, annually has given this Award to one or two graduating seniors. This Award traditionally has taken the form of a cash gift in the amount of $1000. Recipients are encouraged to use the proceeds of the Award to further their college studies and their leadership activities. Recipients of this Award are students who have demonstrated leadership on and off the sports field, have excelled in academic and extracurricular settings and have evidenced a commitment to sportsmanship and inclusiveness. The Foundation will continue to distribute this Award annually.|
Each year, the faculty and administration of Great Neck North High School recommends a group of candidates, and the Foundation selects the recipients of the Award based on Applications submitted by those candidates. The Applications include:

- An essay of three or fewer double-spaced pages describing and providing an example (or multiple examples) of how the candidate exhibits the qualities that Andrew Stergiopoulos embodied, which include: leadership, excellence in academic and extracurricular settings and a demonstrated commitment to sportsmanship and inclusiveness. Note that these qualities may be demonstrated by a candidate’s participation in sports, but they also may be demonstrated by other activities of a candidate that do not involve sports. What the Foundation looks for in these essays is an example or story showing how the candidate demonstrates the outstanding qualities and values that Andrew Stergiopoulos epitomized, both on and off the sports field.
